The latest result of our +10 year collaboration with Europe’s leading smart climate brand, is the new product family—tado° Line X. Through our collaborative approach, supported by intricate user testing, the new hardware design was developed from the ground up.
All devices feature updated connectivity technologies like Thread and Matter, as well as new display technologies, allowing to show extended functionalities. The industrial design of the new product portfolio underlines tado°'s strategic move into the energy management sector, featuring new products like the heat pump optimizer. Making the world fit for a greener future through smart and deliberate energy usage.

A new iconography for smart radiator thermostats
Driven by intensive user research, we imagined a new archetype for the smart radiator thermostat category. The iconic T-shape allows for different mounting positions for all types of radiators and mounting scenarios, making it easy to set up. This design also improves display readability, whether viewed from the front or above, giving users unprecedented flexibility in mounting orientation.
Sustainability and convenience combined
Another innovative design feature we introduced is the rechargeable battery. A satisfying twist-lock mechanism allows it to be removed without detaching the thermostat from the radiator. Conveniently chargeable via USB-C, this design eliminates the need for disposable batteries, reflecting our commitment to sustainability and a frictionless user experience.
A small footprint with big impact
The updated tado° smart thermostat features a slim, compact design that reduces visible height. A delicate chamfer highlights the edge of the frame and transitions smoothly into the front surface. The introduction of a LCD display allows the presentation of a broad range of features while also communicating the smartness of the device. The carefully spaced, slightly concave buttons ensure intuitive user interaction.
Expanding a sustainable product portfolio
A new addition to the tado° portfolio is the heat pump optimizer. Characterized by generous radii, the device features a friendly and approachable appearance. The removable cover neatly hides all connection cables, giving the design its characteristic split. This product optimizes the energy consumption of air-to-water, water-to-water and ground-to-water heat pumps, even without a dedicated thermostat.
A holistic design language for all form factors
The updated design language unites various requirements and form factors, further developing the hardware brand identity of tado°. A mix of delicate surfacing and precise chamfers reflects the high standard of quality of Europe’s leading smart energy management brand while respecting its heritage.
Crafting a product down to the smallest detail
Throughout the development process, we combined hands-on prototyping with meticulous design iterations to refine every detail. Ensuring both aesthetic appeal and functional performance. We tested ergonomics, usability, and integration, to ensure every touchpoint not only meets but exceeds user expectations.
